Who is Jon W Halvorson?
I am 62 years old, and was raised on a dairy farm in Somerset, Wisconsin. I married my wife Janet in 1967 and have one daughter and two granddaughters. I have been a permanent resident of Thurston County since May, 1973; and the City of Lacey since October, 1975.
I came to Washington with the U.S. Air Force in 1968. I served 4.5 years at the McChord AFB and RAF Chicksands, England. I was honorably discharged in 1972.
In September, 1998 I retired from the Department of Social and Health Services as an Administrator after 27.5 years of service. I have worked in 5 divisions: Children's Services, Planning & Research, Management & Budget, Developmental Disabilities, and Community Services (Welfare). My last position was Administrator of the Pierce North Workfirst (Welfare) Office on the Hilltop in Tacoma.
Appointed by four successive Lacey Mayors as a citizen representative to: Human Services Review Council (tax dollar allocation board) 7 years, Chair three times; LOTT Wastewater System Citizens Advisory Committee, 4 years; Lacey Planning Commission, 5 years, Vice-Chair. Appointed by Thurston County Commissioners to the Housing Authority of Thurston County, 6 years, Chair twice.
Served on the Lacey City Council from March, 1991 through December, 1999. Primary committees-LOTT Wastewater Treatment Board, helped write and negotiate adoption of the region wide Highly Managed Plan for Wastewater Treatment & Reclaimed Water Use; Thurston County Medic One Council, helped establish Sprint units in Rochester and West Olympia, helped pass the Medic One levy; City of Lacey Finance Committee which drafts annual City Budget and makes expenditure reccomendations during the year; and Lodging Tax Advisory Committee, which determined fund allocations for tourism and economic development, helped establish the Lacey Dixieland Jazz Festival and the Regional Athletic Complex.

In May, 1993 I became the 10th Mayor of Lacey and held the office through January, 1996. I also co-chaired and managed the successful Lacey Parks Bond in March, 2002.

Fundraising for Charitable Organizations:
South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity, fund development committee where I established the signature fundraiser in 1999, and made the "asks" for the first three years of that event, raising over $100,000. Helped organize sponsorship for and helped build the Olympia Kiwanis house on Miller Street, Olympia.
North Thurston Education Foundation, where I established the "Partner's for Kids" fundraising luncheon, also their signature event and wither chaired it or made the "asks" for five successive years, raising over $80,000. Helped lead the Endowment Campaign, which has raised over $330,000 to date.
Community Youth Services where I established the signature fundraising event in "Have a Heart for Kids" breakfast, now in its fifth year. Also Chaired and/or made "the ask" for the first four years, raising over $140,000.

Olympia Kiwanis Club, took over management and organization of the Roast Beef Booth at Capital Lakefair in Olympia in 2001 and have been co-manager ever since, involving over 100 volunteers.
Thurston County "Citizen of the Year" luncheon. Have been event chair since 2004, soliciting nominations and organizaing the recognition of the Top Ten Finalists, over 30 outstanding community volunteers.
